A competitive and exciting summer experience
The Western Swim Team begins on Memorial Day weekend and concludes the last full weekend of July.
Western competes in the Michigan Inter-Club Swim Association (MICSA
), which is the oldest summer swim league in the country. It was founded in 1940 with six original clubs, and now it includes 14 clubs in the metro Detroit area. The league is divided into 2 equal divisions for dual meets during June and July, and the season culminates with all 14 clubs coming together at the MICSA Finals.
Western was the proud host of the MICSA meet in 2010.
There are six dual meets (Western vs. another club) each summer. We also have a Club Championship on the Sunday prior to the MICSA Finals, where the team competes against each other in their age groups, to determine our Club Champions.
After each contest, the parents and swimmers from both clubs have dinner at the host club, and the evening then culminates with a dance for the swimmers.
The swim team is a great way for your children to improve their swimming skills as well as meet new people and make friends.
All interested youngsters are invited to try the team. No previous experience is necessary! In fact, many kids who end up as serious club, high school, and collegiate swimmers get their start at this level.
Our swim coach, Bob Crosby has been a part of the Western Golf & Country Club team for over 35 years. He has a wealth of experience to share with our swimmers, whatever their age and skill level. If you would like to learn more, please contact our swim coach.
